This past winter, I did a writeup for Yuji Ramen, a pop up noodle shop that mesmerized the Lower East Side from its location at the Bowery Whole Foods. Featuring both a daily shoyu (broth) special as well as a colorful selection of brothless mazemen, Yuji quickly became one of my go-to lunch and dinner spots and a favorite among my family and friends… I don’t even want to check my debit card records to get an actual count. There’s a lot of love between me and Yuji Ramen, the place where my love for bacon and eggs morphed into an appreciation for Squid Tantan and Monkfish Liver and Sea Urchin drenched in sake!
Unfortunately for me, after expanding to a Williamsburg location titled Okonomi (home to an authentic Japanese breakfast experience), Yuji has ended its residency in Whole Foods and Manhattan. My favorite noodles are going from a 10 minute walk from NYU to a couple stops on the L Train. I never thought I’d be seeing a restaurant I reviewed moving so soon, but alas, it’s part of Chef Yuji Haraguchi and Chef Tara Norvell’s dream and master plan…
WHY DOES EVERYTHING AND EVERYBODY I LOVE RUN AWAY FROM ME?
Oh well, it just means, I’ll have to get two or three bowls every time I make the journey out to Brooklyn. I’ve heard great things about Okonomi and wish the whole Yuji team the best. See you soon 🙂
Okonomi is located @ 150 Ainslie St
Williamsburg, NY 11211. All the yummy ramen at the previous Yuji Ramen locations will be available there.
